The beginning...

The story of LEONOR GREYL began in 1960 when Leonor, passionate about the beauty and health of hair, met Jean-Marie, an engineer with a profound love for botany. United by a shared vision, they set out to create natural hair care products. In 1968, they established the Institut Leonor Greyl in Paris, where Jean-Marie quickly began crafting plant-based hair treatments for Leonor's clients. This marked the beginning of the custom-tailored treatments that have become synonymous with the Institut Leonor Greyl's expertise. The concept of creating hair care products with natural, plant-based ingredients naturally led to the birth of the LEONOR GREYL brand.

An innovative approach

This philosophy emerged from Leonor's observation of women visiting her institute with severely irritated scalps, often caused by infrequent washing and chemical treatments. Leonor and Jean-Marie firmly believed that a healthy scalp was essential for healthy hair. With this conviction, they boldly developed gentle products that addressed specific scalp needs while enhancing the beauty of the hair fiber. This approach inspired the company’s motto: “Healthy and glamorous hair using natural products.”

Iconique care products

This innovative approach led to the creation of the brand’s first iconic products. The journey began in 1968 with the launch of Huile de Germe de Blé. It was soon followed by other legendary creations, including L'Huile de Leonor Greyl, Crème aux Fleurs, Crème à la Moelle de Bambou Shampoo, and Sérum de Soie Sublimateur. These products have earned a place of honor in the bathrooms of beauty journalists and influencers worldwide.

Heritage at the heart of the brand

Today, LEONOR GREYL remains a family-run company, continuing its legacy and passing down its unique expertise. In the 2000s, Caroline Greyl, the daughter of Leonor and Jean-Marie, took over as president. Under her leadership, the brand has expanded its presence to over 300 department stores and selective perfumeries, more than 450 salons, and 50 countries worldwide. The tailor-made treatments offered at the LEONOR GREYL Institute are also featured in some of the most prestigious spas in France and across the globe. Caroline proudly represents the brand both in France and internationally. Together with her husband, David Thomas Brooks, an American biologist with a passion for plants, they continue to uphold and carry forward the family tradition.

The success of Leonor Greyl stems from more than just powerful active ingredients and bold innovation.
